When we we're assigned this project, I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do. I wanted my work to be creative. I've always wondered what it'd be like to literally see sound. Since it isn't really possible to literally see sound, I asked Michael for his advice. He suggested I put my headphones on and close my eyes and paint what I hear. I did this, but it didn't turn out as nice as I expected, so I decided to go to down a different route. I didn't want to completely change my idea, so I decided to try to make something with the idea of the brain or illusions.
For the first piece, I was doodling around with some brushes, and one of my doodles sort of looked like a girls face and hair. It looked very spiritual, so I decided to play around with it. I made a copy of this layer and flipped it horizontally to show some symmetry. I decided I wanted this to represent a soul or a human mind. I made 2 rubix cubes and put them at the top two corners to represent intelligence. The right side has ripples behind it in a straight path to represent the logical side of the human mind. The left side has a sort of crooked path of ripples, representing the creative side of the human mind. I tried to use the original woman face and distort it. This would represent the devil side of a soul. The two woman would represent the angels of the soul. I decided to add a symbol to represent a human in the design. The body is pulling the mind and soul together to create mind, body, and soul. The human has yellow teeth to represent the shallowness and greed of human race.
The next piece is representing the evolution of a mind. I chose to make a creature with human like parts but not actually a human, because I believe human intelligence is not the only type of intelligence in the universe. The smallest creature has the least amount of lightbulbs, because he represents the youngest. The largest has the most lightbulbs, because he represents the oldest. The oldest has many layers to represent wisdom of an evolved creature. And from a human perspective, these layers represent the evolution of the mind creating dimensions. Humans have gone from "the world is flat" to "the world is round" to "heaven and hell" to "the 4th dimension" to "string theory (11 dimensions)" and so on and so forth. I find this very interesting, so I decided to show this in this piece.
The final piece is to represent an intelligent mind at work. The intelligent mind of course, being mine. This work began with the creature in the 2nd piece. I used this piece and looked for specific lines from the drawing I could use to create something else. Whatever I could see that could fit within the restraints of the lines, I would draw. This piece would look different for every person that tried to recreate it. I'm almost positive I couldn't remake this piece. It shows just how amazing and unique the intelligent mind really is.
